There is no clear distinction between counselling and psychotherapy ('therapy' for short) in the UK. In reality it doesn't matter what its called as long as its working for you. Therapy gives you the space to focus on your issues in a constructive way. Your therapist will guide you to a better understanding of yourself. This empowers you to find solutions to your issues by making changes in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
There are many reasons why people benefit from therapy and all reasons are valid. It is important not to minimise your issues because other people don't understand them. Examples of issues are experiencing abuse, low self esteem, bereavement, addiction, eating disorders, sexuality issues, relationship problems and illness to name but a few.
The number of sessions needed is unique to each client and will depend on your goals, how you use your time between sessions and how much support you have outwith therapy. Even with limited time or finances, realistic goals can still be achieved.

Couple Therapy You may have relationship issues with your partner, child, step-child, sibling, etc. Any two people can attend couple therapy, regardless of their relationship with each other.
Group Therapy It can often be useful to experience group therapy alongside, or instead of, other types of therapy. Groups are very powerful as you are listened to by many people without judgement and some of the members may empathise with your situation. Sharing your experiences in this way can give you a feeling of empowerment. The Green Rooms runs a generic therapeutic group and specialists groups when required.
