What issues can Counselling and Psychotherapy help with?

There are many reasons why people benefit, and all reasons are valid.

It is important not to minimise your issues because other people don’t understand them, or, you believe that other people have issues worse then your own.

Examples of issues are experiencing loss, bereavement, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, issues with food, confision about sexuality, relationship problems and illness to name but a few.

What is Talking Therapy?

The most common form of Counselling and Psychotherapy is ‘Talking Therapy’ (as opposed to Art, Drama or Music Therapy for example).

There are many different types of Talking Therapy. Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists use an ‘integrative’ approach, which means that they use techniques from various therapeutic approaches, to best meet the needs of their clients.

If you would like a specific type of talking therapy, please ask.

In addition to Integrative, we are able to offer Person Centred Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Person Centred Therapy

Person Centred Therapy is a talking therapy which offers you an empathic and non-judgemental environment to explore and work through your issues.

It focuses on discovering why you think, feel and behave the way you do, and supports you to make changes to improve your situation.

We can offer you pure Person Centred Therapy, or, a combination of this and other therapeutic approaches.

If you think Person Centred Therapy could benefit you, contact us to make an appointment or discuss it further.

If you don’t think a Person Centred approach is for you, perhaps you would benefit from Cognitive Behavioural therapy.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy, which is a logical, goal-oriented, systematic approach to addressing psychological issues.

CBT aims to help you to recognise connections between your thoughts, your feelings/emotions, your behaviour and your bodily sensations.

CBT can help you to recognise and challenge false beliefs and negative automatic thoughts. This will help you create a more realistic belief system.

We can offer you pure CBT, or a combination of CBT and other therapeutic approaches.

If you think CBT could benefit you, contact us to make an appointment or discuss it further. If CBT doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps a Person Centred or Integrative approach would suit you better.

How many Sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed is unique to each client and will depend on your goals, how you use your time between sessions and how much support you have out-with therapy.

Even with limited time or finances, realistic goals can still be achieved.
