What is Fertility Therapy ?

Fertility Therapy is a specialist, private process designed to help you navigate the profound emotional complexities of your journey. Whether you are facing challenges with conception or pregnancy, we provide a dedicated space to explore the uncertainty and stress that often arise.

However fertility challenges have impacted your life, our specialist service is here to support you. We understand that these experiences often involve a psychological loss of the ‘straightforward’ future you had expected or hoped to have. Our expert therapists offer the professional support needed to help you manage this emotional toll, process your experience, and regain a sense of control.

For those navigating the loss of a pregnancy, we also offer specialist Bereavement Counselling.

How can Fertility Therapy help

We offer specialist support for individuals and couples at any stage of their journey, including those who are:

  • Struggling to conceive or worried about their future fertility.
  • Considering, currently undergoing, or processing the experience of fertility treatments such as IVF.
  • Navigating the heartbreaking impact of pregnancy loss.
  • Facing the distress of being unable to access or afford fertility treatment.
  • Managing the frustration of being refused treatment due to age, BMI, or other restrictive criteria.
  • Deciding whether to continue treatment, explore adoption, or embrace a life without children.
  • Embarking on a fertility journey as a solo parent.

Is Fertility Therapy for Individuals or Couples?

Whether you attend individually or as a couple depends on your unique needs. If you wish to explore personal feelings or internal conflicts, 1-1 Therapy sessions are often best.

If fertility stress is straining your relationship, attending together can be highly beneficial. This is also a useful option if you have shared decisions to make.

Where is Fertility Therapy available?

We offer four flexible ways to access support, ensuring you can find the format that best suits your lifestyle, availability, and comfort level:

In-Person Sessions: We welcome you to our comfortable, private therapy room in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire (G77). This location is conveniently situated for those across the Southside of Glasgow and surrounding areas.

Online Video: For maximum flexibility, we provide secure video sessions UK-wide. This allows you to receive specialist support from the privacy of your own home or another convenient location.

Phone Therapy: A great option for those who prefer a non-visual approach or are experiencing screen fatigue, also available UK-wide.

Home Visits: If you find it difficult to travel, have childcare commitments, or simply feel more at ease in your own environment, we can often bring the therapy to you. Please note these are subject to availability and location; contact us for a personalised quote.

Choosing between these formats allows you to prioritise what works best for you, whether that is the physical presence of a therapy room or the convenience of fitting a session around a busy schedule.

FAQS

Common Fertility Therapy FAQ's

What is the process for starting Fertility Therapy?

Our process is designed to ensure our specialist support is the right fit for your unique needs before you commit to a full session:

  • Initial Enquiry: You begin by sending us an enquiry via email or our contact form, including a brief summary of how you are hoping Fertility Therapy can help you.
  • Availability Check: We will email you with details of our current ongoing availability to determine if we can establish a mutually suitable, regular session time. We will also advise you if we believe our specialist service is not the right fit for your particular situation, and where possible, we will provide recommendations for alternative services that may better suit your needs.
  • Free Consultation Call: If we confirm that we have a suitable ongoing slot and our service is a potential fit, we will then arrange a free, confidential consultation call. This is a vital part of the assessment, allowing you to explore your needs, ask any questions, and help you decide, without any pressure or obligation, if our approach is suitable for you.

First Appointment: If we both feel that our service is the right fit and can provide the specialist support you need, we will book your first paid appointment. It is completely natural to feel nervous, so this session is mainly about settling in. We will discuss your current situation, what brings you to therapy now, and what you hope to achieve. It’s a collaborative space where we start building the trust necessary for our work together.

Sessions are usually scheduled weekly to fortnightly, to begin with, as consistent attendance is crucial for creating momentum and implementing changes. The frequency may reduce over time as you become more confident in managing your challenges.

The duration of therapy is highly individual and depends entirely on the complexity of the issues and your specific goals. While some people gain significant clarity in a fixed, short-term block (e.g. 3 to 4 sessions), others require longer-term work to address deeper, long-standing patterns. We will regularly review your progress to ensure the pace feels right for you.

Our fees reflect our specialist level of training and extensive experience. Fees are payable either electronically two working days in advance of your session or in cash on the day of your session.

  1. We provide neuro-affirming support that moves away from ‘fixing’ and towards understanding. Whether you have a formal diagnosis or are self-identified, we adapt our communication and environment to suit your sensory and cognitive needs. This includes professional ADHD and AUTISM screenings (if you wish) and neuro-affirming sessions that focus on your specific cognitive strengths.

We focus on the particular ways you may experience and process the intense emotional and sensory demands of the fertility journey. This might include how ADHD or Autism impacts the way you navigate medical appointments and treatment protocols in a clinical setting, or how you communicate with your partner and medical professionals during times of high stress. We don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We work with how your brain actually works.

Yes. We recognise that the journey through fertility challenges is often not a linear path. You may find yourself at a stage where you are exploring multiple options simultaneously, or perhaps you are beginning to consider adoption as a way forward. This can be a confusing and emotionally charged time, involving a unique blend of hope and grief. We offer a safe, professional space to help you find clarity during this decision-making phase. If you decide to move toward the adoption process, we provide specialist Adoption Therapy to support you, your partner, and your future family through every stage of that transition.

Yes. For many, the transition into menopause is not just a biological shift but the closing of a chapter that may have been marked by fertility challenges. This can bring up complex, resurfacing feelings of grief or a sense of finality that is valid and important to process. We provide a compassionate space to navigate these overlapping emotional stages. For more focused support on this transition, we also offer specialist Menopause Therapy.

We offer a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, ensuring that your sessions are tailored to your unique experience. While some clients benefit from a single approach, we often use an integrative style to provide the most effective support:

  • Integrative Therapy: By drawing on multiple models, our practitioners can adapt their approach to suit your specific personality and the particular nature of the loss you wish to address.
  • Person Centred Therapy: This is an active, relational therapy providing deep empathy and a judgement-free space, specifically designed to help you navigate and resolve your own internal conflicts following a loss.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Techniques: While pure CBT is not typically used for Fertility Therapy, specific CBT techniques can be highly effective for managing the anxiety, difficult thought patterns, or irrational guilt that can often accompany fertility challenges.

Specialist Clinical Areas: We also provide focused support for more complex needs, including Trauma Therapy for those experiencing traumatic bereavement and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Yes. For in-person sessions in Newton Mearns, you may have the option of sharing the room with Coco, our small, hypo-allergenic and extremely friendly dog. Many clients find that the presence of an animal provides extra comfort during Fertility Therapy sessions. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in (subject to availability).

Your privacy is our priority. Your sessions are confidential, and your identity is protected. In line with professional requirements, practitioners discuss their work within therapeutic supervision and internal case management to ensure the highest standard of care. These professional consultations are always conducted without disclosing identifying information.

Beyond this, information is only shared in extreme circumstances, as detailed in our client contract. Our practitioners are members of the BACP or BABCP and strictly adhere to their professional codes of ethics.
