What is Menopause Therapy?
Menopause Therapy is available at our Newton Mearns practice and online. It is a specialist, private process designed to help you navigate the significant psychological and emotional changes that occur throughout the entire transition: including peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause. While physical symptoms are often the focus of medical discussions, the impact on your identity, mood, and relationships can be just as profound. We provide a dedicated, professional space for anyone impacted by menopause.
Our seasoned practitioners bring extensive experience to every session, ensuring your journey is supported by evidence-based techniques. We provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings with complete confidentiality.
How can Menopause Therapy help?
This transition is about more than just physical symptoms: it is a major life shift that encompasses the years before, during, and after your final period. You may find this specialist therapeutic support helpful for:
- Managing mood changes: Processing anxiety, irritability, or the brain fog that can arise during peri-menopause and impact your confidence.
- Exploring shifts in identity: Navigating the internal changes and finding a ‘new normal’ sense of self as you move through menopause into a new stage of life.
- Processing feelings of grief: Addressing feelings of loss related to Fertility history or changes in your body and role within the family.
- Navigating relationship shifts: Exploring how hormonal changes impact your connections with others and finding ways to communicate your needs and experiences more effectively to your partner.
- Validating your experience: Providing a therapeutic space where your mental well-being is the priority, helping you develop coping strategies for the internal changes that medicine alone may not address.

Where is Menopause Therapy available?
We offer four flexible ways to access support, ensuring you can find the format that best suits your lifestyle, availability, and comfort level:
• In-Person Sessions: We welcome you to our comfortable, private therapy room in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire (G77). This location is conveniently situated for those across the Southside of Glasgow and surrounding areas.
• Online Video: For maximum flexibility, we provide secure video sessions UK-wide. This allows you to receive specialist support from the privacy of your own home or another convenient location.
• Phone Therapy: A great option for those who prefer a non-visual approach or are experiencing screen fatigue, also available UK-wide.

What is the process for starting Menopause Therapy (including a free consultation call)?
Our process is designed to ensure our specialist support is the right fit for your unique needs before you commit to a full session:
- Initial Enquiry: You begin by sending us an enquiry via email or our contact form, including a brief summary of how you are hoping Menopause Therapy can help you.
- Availability Check: We will email you with details of our current ongoing availability to determine if we can establish a mutually suitable, regular session time. We will also advise you if we believe our specialist service is not the right fit for your particular situation, and where possible, we will provide recommendations for alternative services that may better suit your needs.
- Free Consultation Call: If we confirm that we have a suitable ongoing slot and our service is a potential fit, we will then arrange a free, confidential consultation call. This is a vital part of the assessment, allowing you to explore your needs, ask any questions, and help you decide, without any pressure or obligation, if our approach is suitable for you.
First Appointment: If we both feel that our service is the right fit and can provide the specialist support you need, we will book your first paid appointment. It is completely natural to feel nervous, so this session is mainly about settling in. We will discuss your current situation, what brings you to therapy now, and what you hope to achieve. It’s a collaborative space where we start building the trust necessary for our work together.
How often are the sessions?
The duration of therapy is highly individual and depends entirely on the complexity of the issues and your specific goals. While some people gain significant clarity in a fixed, short-term block (e.g. 3 to 4 sessions), others require longer-term work to address deeper, long-standing patterns. We will regularly review your progress to ensure the pace feels right for you.
How much does each session cost?
Our fees reflect our specialist level of training and extensive experience. Fees are payable either electronically two working days in advance of your session or in cash on the day of your session.

What is the difference between menopause therapy and medical advice?
Our therapists provide emotional and psychological support. We do not prescribe HRT or offer medical treatments, but our work is highly complementary to the care you receive from your GP or menopause specialist. Menopause Therapy focuses on your mental well-being and the emotional resilience needed for life during and after this transition.
Do you support ADHD and Autism within Menopause Therapy?
We provide neuro-affirming support that moves away from ‘fixing’ and towards understanding. Whether you have a formal diagnosis or are self-identified, we adapt our communication and environment to suit your sensory and cognitive needs. This includes professional ADHD and AUTISM screenings (if you wish) and neuro-affirming sessions that focus on your specific cognitive strengths. We focus on the particular ways you may experience and process the menopause transition. This might include how ADHD or Autism impacts the way you navigate the hormonal shifts in peri-menopause, or how you communicate your internal experiences during post-menopause. We don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We work with how your brain actually works.
Do you support those whose intimate relationships are impacted by menopause?
Yes. While our Menopause Therapy is a 1 to 1 Therapy service, we provide a dedicated space to explore how the transition through peri-menopause, menopause, and into post-menopause affects your connections with others. The emotional and physical shifts can often lead to changes in intimacy or communication within a partnership. We help you navigate these shifts and find effective ways to communicate your needs to your partner. If you feel that you and your partner would benefit from joint sessions, we can discuss a referral to our specialist Couples Therapy service.
How does the transition through menopause intersect with other life areas like fertility and adoption?
The emotional journey of peri-menopause and the transition into post-menopause often overlap with complex family-building histories. For those who have navigated fertility challenges, this stage of life can trigger a resurgence of grief or a need to reprocess the final conclusion of that chapter as the biological window closes. Similarly, for adoptive parents, the hormonal and psychological shifts of peri-menopause can occur while navigating the unique demands of parenting, potentially adding extra strain to family dynamics. We provide a private, therapeutic space to explore these overlapping experiences and the impact they have on your current well-being. For more focused information on these specific areas, please see our Fertility Therapy and Adoption Therapy pages.
Which Therapeutic Approaches do you use for Menopause Therapy?
We offer a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, ensuring that your sessions are tailored to your unique experience of the menopause transition. While some clients benefit from a single approach, we often use an integrative style to provide the most effective support:
- Integrative Therapy: By drawing on multiple models, our practitioners can adapt their approach to suit your specific personality and the particular nature of the transition you are navigating.
- Person Centred Therapy: This is an active, relational therapy providing deep empathy and a judgement-free space, specifically designed to help you navigate and resolve your own internal conflicts.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Techniques: can be used as a standalone approach or integrated with other therapeutic modalities. As a standalone treatment, it provides a structured framework for managing specific symptoms. When integrated, it offers practical tools to complement deeper emotional work. It is highly effective for managing anxiety, challenging difficult thought patterns, and addressing irrational guilt.
Specialist Clinical Areas: We provide focused support for more complex needs, including Trauma Therapy for those experiencing the psychological impact of medical trauma or previous traumatic life events that may resurface during this transition. We also offer Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to help you manage the heightened physical and emotional stressors often associated with peri-menopause and post-menopause.
Do you offer Animal Assisted Therapy?
Yes. For in-person sessions in Newton Mearns, you may have the option of sharing the room with Coco, our small, hypo-allergenic and extremely friendly dog. Many clients find that the presence of an animal provides extra comfort during Menopause Therapy sessions. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in (subject to availability).
Is Menopause Therapy Confidential?
Your privacy is our priority. Your sessions are confidential, and your identity is protected. In line with professional requirements, practitioners discuss their work within therapeutic supervision and internal case management to ensure the highest standard of care. These professional consultations are always conducted without disclosing identifying information.
Beyond this, information is only shared in extreme circumstances, as detailed in our client contract. Our practitioners are members of the BACP or BABCP and strictly adhere to their professional codes of ethics.
