What is GLP-1, Ozempic, Mounjaro & Wegovy Support: Psychotherapy & Nutritional Therapy for Sustainable Weight Maintenance?

GLP-1, Ozempic, Mounjaro & Wegovy Support is available at our Newton Mearns practice and online. These medications are powerful tools for appetite suppression. However, they do not automatically change the deep-seated habits or emotional triggers that led to weight challenges in the first place.

Without exploring these root causes, you may feel the need to stay on medication indefinitely. You may also face the risk of regaining weight once the course ends. Our specialist service provides a dual approach by combining professional Talking Therapy with Nutritional Therapy.

We support you to use the “quieted mind” provided by the medication to build a sustainable lifestyle. Our work involves identifying your unique psychological triggers and physiological barriers. These might include blood sugar instability or nutrient deficiencies. We work with you toward a permanent shift in your relationship with food rather than a temporary fix.

How can GLP-1, Ozempic, Mounjaro & Wegovy Support help?

This therapeutic model is for those who want to work toward sustainable weight loss. We work together to identify the factors that make weight maintenance a challenge for you beyond the medication. This includes:

  • Moving Toward Independence: We help you develop the internal tools and resilience needed to work toward a future where you do not rely on a GLP-1 drug.
  • Managing “Rebound” Hunger: We help you prepare for the physiological changes that can occur if you choose to reduce or stop medication.
  • Emotional Eating: We address the use of food to manage stress or difficult emotions. Medication alone does not resolve these habits.
  • Physiological Obstacles: We identify internal factors, like low stomach acid or compromised digestion, that can impact your long-term success.
  • Nutritional Analysis: We offer nutritional insights to help you manage your physical well-being and nutrient levels during your weight loss journey.
  • Subconscious Barriers: We explore hidden reasons why you may find it difficult to prioritise your long-term well-being.

FAQS

Common 1 to 1 Therapy & Counselling FAQ's

What is the process for starting GLP-1, Ozempic, Mounjaro & Wegovy Support (including a free consultation call)?

Our process is designed to ensure our specialist support is the right fit for your unique needs before you commit to a full session:

  • Initial Enquiry: You begin by sending us an enquiry via email or our contact form, including a brief summary of how you are hoping GLP-1, Ozempic, Mounjaro & Wegovy Support can help you.
  • Availability Check: We will email you with details of our current ongoing availability to determine if we can establish a mutually suitable, regular session time. We will also advise you if we believe our specialist service is not the right fit for your particular situation, and where possible, we will provide recommendations for alternative services that may better suit your needs.
  • Free Consultation Call: If we confirm that we have a suitable ongoing slot and our service is a potential fit, we will then arrange a free, confidential consultation call. This is a vital part of the assessment, allowing you to explore your needs, ask any questions, and help you decide, without any pressure or obligation, if our approach is suitable for you.

First Appointment: If we both feel that our service is the right fit and can provide the specialist support you need, we will book your first paid appointment. It is completely natural to feel nervous, so this session is mainly about settling in. We will discuss your current situation, what brings you to therapy now, and what you hope to achieve. It’s a collaborative space where we start building the trust necessary for our work together.

Sessions are usually scheduled weekly to fortnightly, to begin with, as consistent attendance is crucial for creating momentum and implementing changes. The frequency may reduce over time as you establish sustainable habits and reach your personal goals.

The duration of therapy is highly individual and depends entirely on the complexity of the issues and your specific goals. While some people gain significant clarity in a fixed, short-term block (e.g. 3 to 4 sessions), others require longer-term work to address deeper, long-standing patterns. We will regularly review your progress to ensure the pace feels right for you.

Our fee reflects our specialist level of training and extensive experience. It also includes (specific) between-session nutritional communication. Fees are payable either electronically two working days in advance of your session or in cash on the day of your session.

Yes. We provide neuro-affirming support that moves away from ‘fixing’ and towards understanding. Whether you have a formal diagnosis or are self-identified, we adapt our communication and environment to suit your sensory and cognitive needs. This includes professional ADHD and AUTISM screenings (if you wish) and neuro-affirming sessions that focus on your specific cognitive strengths. We focus on the particular ways you may experience and process food and nutrition. This might include how ADHD or Autism impacts the way you navigate executive functioning in meal planning, or how you internally process the emotional and sensory aspects of hunger and fullness. We don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We work with how your brain actually works.

Yes. Hormonal changes during menopause can significantly impact weight and metabolic health. This transition can also be an intensely emotional time, often bringing feelings of anxiety, loss of identity, or frustration. We provide a safe space to explore these emotional changes and the physical impact on your body. We can also integrate our specialist Menopause Therapy where appropriate.

We offer a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, ensuring that your sessions are tailored to your unique experience of how your weight impacts your mental and physical health. We use an integrative style to provide the most effective support:

  • Nutritional Therapy: We use scientific analysis to identify physiological barriers. This includes looking at mineral levels and digestive health. This offers nutritional insights to help you manage your physical well-being to achieve weight maintenance.
  • Integrative Therapy: By drawing on multiple models, our practitioners can adapt their approach to suit your specific personality and the particular nature of the barriers you are facing.
  • Person Centred Therapy: This is an active, relational therapy providing deep empathy and a judgement-free space, specifically designed to help you explore your relationship with food at your own pace.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Techniques: Specific CBT techniques can be highly effective for managing the anxiety, difficult thought patterns, or guilt that can often accompany difficulties with eating.
  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: We often integrate this as a tool to help you manage the emotional triggers and stress that impact your well-being.

Specialist Clinical Areas: We provide focused support for more complex needs. This includes Trauma Therapy for those whose eating patterns are linked to past traumatic experiences, and support for those experiencing chronic stress.

Yes. For in-person sessions in Newton Mearns, you may have the option of sharing the room with Coco, our small, hypo-allergenic and extremely friendly dog.
