Christmas Traditions – Planned and Spontaneous

Christmas is a time for making memories with our loved ones, and many of these memories become part of our own personal traditions as we celebrate the festive season. Along with the food, songs, films and decorations we have become so accustomed to at this time of year, we will likely have our own Christmas traditions, our own personal festive routines which we share with our families and loved ones.

Christmas TraditionsWhy are Christmas traditions important?

Traditions are an important aspect to our celebrations of the festive season, and they offer numerous benefits. Our traditions offer us comfort and familiarity, a welcome solace from the everyday stresses and challenges of life. They also help us to make lasting memories and strengthen the bonds we have with our families and loved ones. They can also strengthen our sense of identity, becoming part of who we are.

Planned and spontaneous traditions

As we strive to complete our Christmas shopping, put the decorations up and ensure we have enough food for everyone at Christmas dinner, it is easy to be caught up in the stresses and strains of the festive season. We often spend so much time trying to create the perfect Christmas that we forget to enjoy it.

However, quite often our favourite memories of Christmas with our families come from the spontaneous moments that have become part of our Christmas celebrations. While the gifts, food and decorations are important in our celebrations of the festive season, don’t forget that a far more important aspect of these celebrations is enjoying and cherishing the time we spend with our loved ones.
